I have a 2020 Acura RDX, backed into a pillar recently and have a gash through my front and rear door. Got a couple estimates around ~$3-3.5k which is really pushing how much I can pay outta pocket.

The gash isn't huge in height but its about 1ft wide and I would leave it alone but I'm worried it's gonna rust over time and cause more damage. I have statefarm currently paying $100/mo $500 deductible never been in an accident before, is it worth filing?

Pay $3k or go through insurance for at fault accident?

    1. Nobody knows. Can be even zero. Or 2-3 hundred dollars for 3-5 years. What is your state, your age and your history of accidents and tickets?

    2. Is the damage just on the doors?   If so, hit up some junk yards and buy replacement doors.   (Or eBay, etc.  junk yard is just cheaper).

    3. If it were me, I would eat the cost of the repair and avoid a claim. There is no way to know for sure what your surcharge would look like but I would think you would be lucky to break even with premium increases over several years. $100 a month increase would outpace the cost of the repair after 3 years.

Nobody knows. Only the underwriter that rates your policy knows, once your policy needs to be renewed. But you don’t know who that is, nor is their position customer facing.
