I was involved in an accident where there was a crash and then the person lost control of their car and hit me. The cops were called and they took all of our information and statements. The yesterday I received a certified letter from a personal injury attorney (Morgan and Morgan) requesting my personal information and insurance information. The letter is telling me to contact my insurance so my insurance can get a hold of them. I contacted my liability insurance and they said that a claim against me has not been filed. Am I under any requirement to respond or should I ignore it since they already have all my information?
Edit: They letter said they the other party has retained then to representative them
Do I need to respond to PI attorney

No. No requirement to speak to them.
Personally, I would not. Your insurer will handle it.
did you have a passenger in your car
They are trying to push their way in to represent you in an injury claim against the at fault driver. There is no reason for you to talk to them unless you are legitimately hurt and you want to hire them to sue the at fault driver.
If you were actually being sued (which is unlikely since you’re not at fault), your insurance carrier would represent you in that lawsuit.
Ignore it
This is the law firm fishing for your business. If you are not at fault no one is suing you. They want to convince *you to sue the other party* and of course they take a cut of any monies awarded
Was there a notice of service of process included in the letter? If so, you need to forward that letter to your carrier and notify them of claim against you – which they will defend.
Tell your insurance company. They will hire you an attorney if necessary. Do not talk to anyone other than your insurance company and that attorney about what happened in the crash. M&M wants you to contact your insurance company, they are not expecting you to do anything beyond that.
Do not respond to it. You should work directly with your own insurance company and they will hire an attorney to represent you both if needed. You only really need to hire your own attorney if you are going to file suit against your own insurance company for some reason.
You should have already notified your insurance of the accident, let them deal with Morgan and Morgan. It’s complete bullshit that they are trying to get your business, in fact they are precluded from representing you since they rep a different vehicle and they would have a conflict of interest . Whenever there is a multiple car accident that results in a lawsuit, the plaintiffs attorney HAS to bring in all cars ,even those unlikely to have any liability. The facts will be sussed out during discovery and your insurance carrier will assign an attorney to represent you if you become part of the lawsuit. Do not give any statements or sign anything until your insurance/ attorney tells you to.
If you haven’t notified your insurance company you should do so. Then just send the paper work over to your insurance company. Your insurance company will deal with it.
If you get subpoenaed as a witness to a deposition or to testify in court you will have to cooperate. Ignoring a subpoena is not an option.
Oh God. M&M. Ambulance chasers extraordinaire.
They’re ambulance chasing. They get alerts on accidents with PI and reach out.
*IF* you choose to hire a lawyer, get recommendations and seek someone of your choosing and not someone who solicits you.
You’ve just been placed on notice that the attorney is representing that person for this accident since you were in the accident too.
Nothing else you need to do. If you receive anything further, turn it over to your insurance.
Ok now I see the sit where they’re trying to claim *against you*. At first I thought they were ambulance chasing to represent you. You DO need to send this to your insurance and tell them about the accident and let them take it from here.
This same crap happened to us. The at fault person hired an ambulance chaser like this trying to get money *from us* for an accident *they caused*.
You got hit or you caused the crash?
