I HATE verifications, and for the most part American Express doesn't bother you–and whenever they do, I suppose they just send codes to my email.
Well, I was trying to buy an AMEX gift card through them…and so now they want to send a code–to the OLD phone on file, which no longer exists.

I'm scared if I try to update stuff, I might get locked out or something.

I found that my American Express card account has an old mobile number that I haven't had for 3 years: am I going to screw myself if I try to update it now online?

    1. [For the record, I know that Capital One has no problem whatsoever with changing the cell number on file … **because they allowed a hacker in ANOTHER COUNTRY to do so last year–without even flinching.** Needless to say, that was a nightmare.]

    2. Change it now while you’re able to login and do it. Who knows what the the headache will be when you can’t login and you have to call customer service.
