Hey r/Frugal,

I was placed on a PIP, and it doesn't seem done in good faith, so I'm looking to quit and find another job. I would stay and get fired for the unemployment money, but the way I'm being treated is too heavy on my mental health.

I have plenty in savings because of my inheritance, but having no money coming in just doesn't sit right with me even if I could do nothing for several years.

I'm a data analyst, and I've already reached out to a company that I did a remote internship for. I'll be meeting with them again sometime next week. I don't expect to make much for any temporary work that I do there since they never paid much in the past, but it's something to keep me afloat and it's relevant to my field.

Besides that, I'm also looking for hustles to do with my 2020 Hyundai Elantra (4D Sedan).

I've done DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart in the past. I've just heard about Amazon Spark too, so I may give that a try. I'm just interested in cherry picking offers while I'm upskilling and applying for jobs.

Are there any other ones I could consider? Any other advise that you would give? Thanks.

Planning to Quit Job. Looking for Hustles to Stay Afloat.

    1. You’ve named most of them and may even want to consider just normal Uber driving. It’s a great way to meet people and network. This may also help with the mental health if you meet people with similar interest!
I’m not sure how you are with pets but I’d recommend looking into the dog walking/sitting apps as well. They pay pretty good from what I hear.

Also wouldn’t hurt to maybe take up a part time job at a gym or restaurant.

Best of luck with your new endeavors!

Look into reselling on Amazon. It does take some time to get going, but jt is not a scam, is not “dead in 2025” (as online people want to tell you), and is full of opportunity. I learned how to do it mostly on my own, with a couple $80 courses, and it’s lots of fun, data-driven, and much more profitable than DD/Instacart/Uber.

I would look at Rat Race Rebellion’s website. They vet work from home jobs. Doing gigs using your car is going to put a lot of wear and tear on it.

You could look into teaching for a local coding bootcamp. Also, tutoring rich kids in CS pays better than most normal jobs.

    5. Look at participating in marketing and research studies for extra cash. Craigslist- Etcetera Jobs has local and web based studies, and other short term jobs. Also look at Gigs in Craigslist Jobs and their IT Jobs category. Local small businesses post alot on Craigslist. You can also search by full-time, part-time or temporary jobs on Craigslist.

Area specific, but when I was out of work and just needed some extra cash I did substitute teaching. My local schools just required you have a college diploma and pass a background check. Enough teachers were out I could work like every day.

The pay was shit but it kept me busy and God knows if you can wrangle a room of eighth grade you can do anything.

    7. If you’re financially secure, good for you – and you really should do you – your mental health is #1, I learned that the hard way.

At the same time, you’re smart to want to keep money coming in. If you have several years’ worth of liquidity, maybe take your time and find a side gig that you love (maybe more than gig work / driving?), or start a business in a “safer” field.

Also, a word of caution; I also work in the tech space, was well-placed, well-respected and financially secure just 4 years ago. After a couple of health problems and being laid off 3x in 2 years, I lost… a lot. If I weren’t responsible for a family of 6 I would’ve downsized, simplified, and found a simpler job.

Not answering your question directly but any free time you have to spend between gig work,
Your best bet it to be searching any applying to new full-time positions. The less time you spend doing gig work, the better.
