I scraped a parked car today. Unfortunately the car belongs to my brother. The damage isn’t major. There is a chance that the cost to repair will be less than my insurance excess.
However, as it’s the holiday season he may not be able to find an open repair shop until after the break.
Obviously if the cost to repair is less than excess then I’ll pay myself rather than use insurance.
My question is, if he gets quotes in two weeks, and it happens to be the cost that requires me to use insurance, will it be an issue for me to make the claim two+ weeks after the accident?
I’m in Australia.
Thanks for the advice.
Do I have to call insurance right away or can I wait until I’ve gotten my own quotes first?

I’m not sure if insurance in AU is similar to US, but if so, get the quotes first and make a decision on whether it’s even worth filing a claim. If it’s not significantly more than your deductible, you’re going to be better off handling it on your own. Calling them will almost certainly make a note, even if you choose not to make the claim in the end.
