The sub found extensive undersurface melting and a variety of pitting, shelfs, and other shapes not visible above from satellites. This isn’t some weird mystery. The possibility of such under surface melting was why they were sending it down there to begin with.
It’s perilous work, and the unmanned sub was unsurprisingly, eventually lost.
