Hi,

1st time poster here. My car insurance broker did not mention it but State Farm has sent me these devices to put in our car to track our driving. The device is by Cambridge Mobile Telematics. How is my data sold – what are my privacy rights here ? Who accesses this data ?

    TIA.

    1. Ask for the TOS and privacy policy for the service/device.

I personally wouldn’t install one, but my insurance rates are low enough that I don’t worry about lowering them further

    2. I would contact your agent and request the terms and conditions/privacy policy of their telematics program. It’s called Drive Safe & Save.
It is an optional program so you can also inquire about opting out is you don’t like the terms.

    3. https://www.statefarm.com/customer-care/faqs/drive-safe-save

Your agent seems to have included the Drive Safe and Save discount on your policy. You can refuse to install the device/app and you’ll lose the discount. The link above answers basic questions about the programs and links to the EULA if you have the wherewithal to navigate that document. But basically, SF tracks lots of info about your driving and location in real time. And they use that info to assess your driving and use of your car and they may adjust premium based on what the data shows.
