Hello everyone,

This post is regarding car insurance in North Carolina (US) specifically with Progressive. I'm not sure if this is happening with other car insurance companies.

My husband and I are trying to increase our Medical Payments with Progressive.
I used to have coverage with Progressive and it was $10,000.00. (My preferred since my out of pocket/deductibles for my Health Insurance are less than that but over $5,000.00, and if the worst happens, this should cover us for out of pocket payments if my understanding is correct.)

However, in NC laws have recently changed, minimum liability limits have increased and based on all of the Declarations Pages I've seen lately everyone has been having $5,000.00 even when they aren't sure they elected for it. (I see them regularly for my job but that's irrelevant.)

When my husband and I got married, we merged our policies and I was setting up our coverages, and I noticed we couldn't get more than $5,000.00 in Medical Payments coverage. I called Progressive and all the lady could offer was that NC was weird, but she's not sure why we couldn't get higher Medpay.

Has anyone experienced this or know why this could be?

TLDR: Progressive won't allow us to get more than $5,000.00 in Medical Payments. Is anyone else experiencing this? Obviously we will shop around to try and get better coverage.
