Pointless articles like these display the wholesale ignorance surrounding Taiwan and China’s relationship. Even setting aside the likelihood that US and regional allies would get involved militarily, there’s far too much economic dependency across the straight for China to gamble it all on an invasion. And that’s without getting into all the complex cultural factors. The only way I see it ever happening is if they suffered a total economic collapse.

Ultimately, Xi Jinping is getting old. For some personal reasons, Xi likely wants to make his name known as the one who took back Taiwan for the school textbooks. So he will likely try to invade within his lifetime.
