I realize this is old news, but I don't really follow credit card news, so I didn't realize this till I went to book a trip yesterday and saw that the UR don't get the portal points boost anymore? This sucks man, One of the hugest advantages of the Chase Trifecta was the simplicity – yeah you could get a higher cpp value by transferring, but using the portal is great for people who don't want to do all that. Plus, being able to throw what points you have at a flight and pay the rest with cash was a godsend. I have personally gotten several people who don't want to play the points and miles game into the trifecta because of its ease of use.

So I assume the CSP will continue to allow you to transfer? To be honest, I didn't really do that much with mine. I booked mostly thru the portal. I barely put any spend on mine, but I put a LOT of spend on my CFU and a decent amount on the CFF, and having that portal boost for the points I earned on those cards more than justified the $45 EAF of the CSP.

I'm thinking I'm going to downgrade it when the next AF comes due. I have almost no organic spend on it, I barely transfer, and they just got rid of my biggest reason for having it. I guess the only other thing about it I used a lot was for rental cars – it has primary protection whereas the fee-free Chase cards have only secondary protection. I also have the Amex gold which if I recall correctly also has primary but I'm probably cancelling that card as well for unrelated reasons.

Anyway, given my situation, is there anything I'm overlooking why I should keep it?

Any reason for me to keep the Sapphire Preferred after the portal boost nerf?

The Points Boost. You are overlooking the Points Boost. No other card system offers this type of redemption bonus. It doesn’t work for everyone but I find it is a nice alternative to Hyatt transfers.

    2. I just downgraded our CSR. Between cutting a few categories we actually used out of the travel bucket, the increased AF, the coupon book changes, and the reduced “guaranteed” redemption rate, it was no longer the simple value we originally signed up for.
