Groceries, gas, and essential bills excluded, how many days a week are you going without spending any "flexible" money? I want to gauge whether or not I'm doing well seeing as I'm quite new and don't really have a frame of reference for whether I'm being strict or relaxed. Thanks for any advice, getting a guage on where I'm at will be super helpful.

Also, what kind of weekly "flex" budget do you have? I've been trying to keep it under $150, which hasn't been that hard, hence wondering if I'm being too loosey goosey

How many days a week do you go without spending any money at all. I'm so new I feel like my habits are still very flexible.

    1. Other than the essentials? It’s more how many days in a month do you spend money on them. I buy what I need and once every 3 months maybe, I’ll have a treat. 150$ per week is a lot for not necessities.

    2. I can go weeks, easily, without spending money on anything other then essentials/groceries. What are you spending $150/week on?

    3. Sometimes, months. We are retired so unless something breaks, we don’t really need anything. Christmas was a few non essential purchases depending on how you classify them. We got a treadmill to keep joints limber and I got a portable DVD player to watch physical media and streaming in my recliner as my wife owns the TV and remotes.

    4. Generally, I don’t spend much outside of my necessities. I do what’s referred to as “reverse budgeting” – expenses are already accounted for an allocated where they should go, savings and investments come out as soon as I’m paid and go where they go as well, and everything else leftover is to do what I want with. Most days of the week I spend nothing. I eat and drink at home, pack lunch for work, pack snacks for work, drink free coffee and whatever is available at the office – usually sparkling water – and then eat dinner and snacks at home when I get off work.
