Currently on Save with consolidated loans with the earliest date of 2009. I tried reviewing payment options but on studentaid.gov it’s only showing IBR and standard. Stating PAYE is not available.
There is a memo that states July 1, 2026 PAYE will become available. Does that mean I can apply then? What happens in 2028? Will PAYE just disappear as a payment option but if you’re in it you’re grandfathered in and can still be on PAYE or switched to either RAP or IBR?

PAYE will be gone entirely by July 2028. There will be no grandfathering. You will only have IBR or RAP by then.
PAYE is currently available for eligible borrowers. You may not qualify for PAYE if you don’t have a partial financial hardship.
