Went to the dealer the other day for a 2025 Toyota Tacoma I was interested in, have not been pre approved yet. Their final out the door price pre-negotiation was $40,760.
I’m set on getting pre approved, and I am also set on not wanting to spend a penny more than $40,000.
Should I set my pre approval request limit at $40,000, or should I request a lower amount to try to negotiate to get an even better deal father under $40,000 which would of course be great if that happened, or do you think that would be unlikely for the dealer to cut that much of a deal?
I’ve been saving up and this past summer received my SRB so I plan on putting down 33% on the vehicle, which at $40,000 would equate to $13,200.
Question about how much I should set my pre approval request at?

Why would you get approved for less than the car costs and think that will help you?
Don’t buy a 40k truck man
Dealers are so shady. You should be able to get the exact price before you get too far. If you can’t consider looking at at a service like Carvana.
