My shoes always hurt my feet after a while and the outer soles are always fine and not worn down but I’m thinking it’s the inner soles that have worn down and need replacing.

Is it worth to change the insoles if the outside is still good? I can’t afford to buy a new pair of shoes right now so if I could find a way to not make my feet hurt in what I have then that would be great.

On that note is there a brand of insoles that anyone recommends?

Does anyone replace the insoles of their shoes?

    1. The part of the shoe that usually dies first is the midsole, not the insole. Replacing the insole won’t fix a worn out midsole.

    2. I put powerstep insoles in my work shoes as soon as I get them. They aren’t inexpensive though.

I change mine, because I tend to wear through them. I haven’t found any brands I’d say are particularly good. Recently I’ve started just tracing the old ones onto an old piece of leather I’ve got, cutting it out, and using those as insoles.

    4. Yes, fresh insoles are a game changer. Make sure to get ones with the cushioning and support you need. Some are good for low impact walking others for running, some are good for walking on hard surfaces all day for work etc.

    5. I have found that even good quality shoes don’t have good insoles these days. There are exceptions like Hoka and Orthofeet but many others just seem to use cheap foam insoles. I almost always replace the insoles as soon as I buy them. Now I have a stack of foam insoles that I’m looking for a use for.

All the time. I do feel insoles are an individual thing, though. It depends a lot on how you walk and your arches. You’ll find ones you like but you might have to try a few.
