Hey all,

Hope I don't get flamed too hard for budget and coffee lol.

So we have drank foldgers classic for years until it went from $12 to $20 for 43 oz of grounds at Costco. Used reg coffee pot.

Then switched to original donut shop coffee when it went on sale for 96 k cups for $37 as I thought it was a great sale. Seems staples runs it frequently though. Waiting for coffee in the am sucks and if the misses or I decide to drink 2 cups vs 1 it's just not worth the k cup life it seems.

I read great value donut shop k cups are better than the great value grounds, anyone have experience with their ground coffee? Any other medium roasts or how is mcdonalds McCafe grounds vs say folgers classic?

We also have a WinCo and trader joes close as well. Just looking for some recommendations as we are almost out of the 96 k cups and thank you!

PS willing to go back to the drip coffee too. TIA

McCafe or Donut Shop coffee grounds or k cup advice/recommendations?

    1. I don’t know about that brand specifically but if you have a keurig, get the refillable k cups. Then you can use whatever grounds you want.

We switched to the refillables and it cut our cup of coffee down to 15ish cents.

It is definitely not worth getting flamed over since coffee math is one of the quickest ways to find leaking money in a budget. If you are looking for the best balance of quality and cost, moving back to a drip pot is technically the most frugal move you can make because K-cups typically cost around $40 to $50 per pound of coffee when you break down the actual weight while even fancy grounds usually sit under $15. WinCo bulk bins are often the hidden gem of budget brewing since you can buy exactly the amount you need and the high turnover means the beans are usually fresher than pre-ground tubs. Trader Joe’s Medium Roast or their Joe grounds are also solid contenders that stay at a consistent price point regardless of the inflation spikes seen in name brands like Folgers. Many people find the McCafe grounds to be much smoother than Folgers because they use 100% Arabica beans which lacks that bitter punch that cheaper Robusta blends often have. Moving away from the K-cup life is a smart way to reclaim a significant portion of your grocery budget without sacrificing your morning routine at all.
