I have been trying to understand what people consider a real alternative to TornadoCash today. Since it was taken out of the picture, it feels like there is no clear replacement that offers the same level of privacy without introducing new risks. I have heard about Railgun, but I also know someone who sent funds that had interacted with it to Coinbase and ended up with their account frozen, which makes me question how viable these options really are in practice.
Because of that, I am starting to wonder whether a true alternative even exists anymore, or if privacy has simply moved elsewhere. It feels like anything visible on Ethereum gets flagged sooner or later, and that mixers as a concept may be either effectively gone or pushed into other ecosystems entirely. Do people still see a working replacement for TornadoCash, or has the focus shifted away from on chain mixers to completely different approaches now?

One underrated factor here is incentives. Privacy tooling needs iteration, testing, and real usage. That is hard to sustain when fees are high, transactions are highly surveilled, and failed experiments are expensive for users.
Once using or even testing a tool becomes costly or risky, developers stop building and users stop experimenting. That tends to push privacy either off chain, into lower fee ecosystems, or into entirely different models rather than direct Tornado style replacements.
