Being in China is actually an advantage. Start with simple, high-demand products that already sell well in Kenya and benefit from China’s manufacturing scale. Think phone accessories, solar lighting, small electronics, household items, or basic machinery parts.
Before choosing a product, validate demand back home first. Talk to shop owners in Kenya, check Jumia listings, and ask what sells fast vs what sits. Start small, test one product, understand shipping, duties, and margins, then scale once the numbers make sense.
Don’t overthink the idea. Focus on demand, logistics, and cash flow first. The product matters less than how efficiently you move it.
Create a business case, where you look at your ideal buyer, the cost of operation, potential margins, revenue, break even and when the budget turns to profit, how to measure success along the way and what safety measures to put in place to stay afloat. With that information set a plan for go-to-market and apply it.
If you dont understand the basic (Read oversimplified) road above. Spend the coming 6 months understanding everything I wrote. Combine that with a beginner finance education online (Which you complement with a bookkeeper the day you start)
