I am in NY….

Twenty months ago my policy that I had with G#^#& cancelled because of my credit card expiration date. The paperless bills were sent to an email address that I haven't checked in 2 years (my AOL account) as well as the cancellation notice. The ONLY reason I knew about the cancellation was, I received a notice from DMV after 4 days (Interesting that I can't get a license for 3-4 weeks but any delinquent account I can get a notice in a day). I went to reinstate my insurance and apparently there was a lapse for 5 days…geico gave me a policy at 200% increase and unfortunately that was the best I could do.

When does this penalty period expire? What are the next steps to get back to a normal insurance rate? What else can I do?

    Please help

Depending on company you won’t be considered as being insured with no lapse for at least 6 months to a year, some companies won’t give you their best rates until you’re insured continuously for 2 or 3 years.
