Waste heat from Bitcoin miners is being reused to power greenhouses, turning energy that would normally be lost into food production.

Even the loudest skeptics did NOT see this one coming.

    1. People asking for “real utility” don’t understand that money is specifically the good in the economy that you don’t acquire to use directly, but to trade later for other goods.

    2. So the utility of Bitcoin is growing tomatoes inefficiently? Not even sure if that’s a joke.

This wouldn’t make it to the bottom of the list of Bitcoin’s utilities.

    3. They have been using the energy waste as an argument for years. If a bank has a reinforced steel door, that door “wastes” a lot of steel that a normal door does not use… It is not a waste but the reason why it is reinforced. All of the energy bitcoin uses is not wasted but used to reinforce the ledger against tampering. USD, by comparison, wastes way more resources in organizations, wars, and programs dedicated to mantain the dollar’s stability, relevance and resistance to falsification. Bitcoin uses just the energy it needs to make falsification unaffordable.
