Is this an automatic process that I wasn’t aware of, and is there a reason it isn’t showing up? When I look at the “My loans“ section of the Federal Student Aid portal I see ”You have no loans“ because I haven’t taken any out. What do I do about this?

My school’s financial aid portal says I’ve accepted federal loans that I did not accept and that do not show up in my FSA portal.

    1. You will need to speak to your school financial aid or bursar office to see if you had any loans. They should be able to clear any confusion.

When your school’s financial aid office opens (assuming they’re closed for winter break), I’d give them a call and ask what’s going on

Is this for the upcoming semester that hasn’t started yet? If so it is possible the loans may not show up on FSA portal until they are disbursed. There would also have been a primisory note that you (or a wellmeaning helpful parent with access to your financial aid account) would have had to have signed off on. If you don’t want the loans you need to speak to the schools financial aid office. Some schools you have to physically deselect the loan portion of the financial aid offer.
