I’m screwed aren’t I? I was expecting my usual tax refund (about $6k) and have so many bills to catch up on. But I just found out your tax refund can be offset from your student loans. An officer was contacting me back in September and we had an appointment to set up a payment plan but I missed it. Life and health problems got to me. I just found out apparently they sent a letter to an old address on November 25, 2925 letting me know about intent to offset but it never rerouted to my current address. I called today about getting out of default, but my 65 days is almost up. Even if I submit the required information and get on a payment plan before January 29th, I won’t make my first payment to after that. And then there’s the thing about making the 9 consecutive monthly payments to get out of default. I’m screwed aren’t I? I owe like $5k in student loans. The support agent also said I could apply for consolidation but after logging into the site, that’s not an option because the loan is in default. I can’t believe I let this happen to my son and I. Idk whether to laugh or cry. Just give me some advice so I can be realistic with myself. Not asking for pity or money, so please don’t assume! Just advice or maybe some random miracle, sliver of hope, or loophole lol. Second job here I come.
