As the title says, over ten years ago, a friend of mine gifted me a singular bitcoin. He sent me toan website where I made an account, and it told me that I did, in fact, have the bitcoin. It's been such a long time, and the last time I checked (4+ years ago), it said nothing.

Having that single bitcoin would be obviously incredibly helpful financially, but I know next to nothing about cryptocurrency, no less bitcoin.

    Does anyone have any advice?

(I'm just putting this here so I can reach the character limit.)

I Was Gifted One Bitcoin 10+ Years Ago. I can't find it. Where is it?

    1. Lets start with the basics, what website?

Literally no one can help you with the information you’ve given us.

    2. All Bitcoin is on the Bitcoin blockchain. No exceptions.

To claim/use/spend Bitcoin, you need a private key. ANYONE who has the private key can claim it. Without the private key, NO ONE can claim it.

If a website tells you you “have” Bitcoin, they’re implying they have the private key for those coins. They might be legit, but often they are not. One never knows until one tries to take custody of their coins by sending them to an address from their own wallet (which holds their own private keys).

Bottom line: If you don’t have the private key and you don’t know where to find the private key, you don’t have Bitcoin.

For fucks sake dude if you want to keep btc the bare minimum is simply keeping custody of it. As opposed to just putting in zero effort to keep it and not even storing it on your wallet. You totally do not deserve to recover that coin.

    4. That’s why I haven’t bought any, I’m too low tech to manage it long term. I bought some etf’s.

    5. You have the public address and private key, or you have nothing. The website is irrelevant.

If you do have the public key? Any block explorer can validate the balance for you, but you need the private key to move it.

From 10 years ago, you’d also have coins on the forks, so don’t overlook that few hundred bucks if you do have the keys.

DM me the website address with your username and password and I’ll check it out for you.
