My wife and I were rear ended last night while sitting at a stop light last night. Person tried to get into the lane to my left and ended up clipping my bumper and damaging my car. It was a very low speed accident and no one was hurt. Police were called, report was filed. I have also already filed a claim through my insurance but requested to have the other parties insurance pay for the damages. Not sure what my next steps are but this is a brand new leased truck (1 month old) so I want to take all the right steps.

Do I need to file with their insurance at this point?

How will I know if I’m at fault?

Can I expect my premium to go up?

We both have Geico and live in New York.

Sorry if any of this is obvious, I’ve been driving for 12 years and have never been in an accident or needed to file any insurance claims.

    Rear ended, insurance steps
