Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar or understands how this works because I’m pretty confused.

    Here’s the situation:

Toward the end of last year, I was notified that my federal student loans were being processed to be discharged because my TPD discharge was automatically triggered. I know you can't apply for any more aid after the discharge and that didnt bother me because I wouldnt need to apply again or accept any more since I finish school before the next 26-27 school year, and I already had accepted and had been partially been disbursed half of my latest loan. I got a letter saying my discharge had gone through a week ago only thing is it didn't include the other half of the amount I had accepted around the middle of last year. For the Spring 2026 semester, however I did receive the second half of my disbursement as expected since it was already accepted in full. But now, my school sent me paperwork saying that if I want to receive any more financial aid for the 2025 -2026 school year, I need to submit a physician’s note.

    Here’s where I’m confused:

    • I haven’t applied for any new financial aid
    • The loans in question were accepted last year, before I was ever notified that a TPD discharge was being processed
    • I will be finished with school before the 2026-2027 year, so I won’t need any additional aid anyway
    • Despite that, I’m being told I need medical documentation to “take out loans again,” even though I’m not trying to

    My main questions:

    1. Why would only half of my accepted loan be discharged?
    2. Is it normal for schools to require a physician’s note after my student aid had already been disbursed and used, especially because it is technically not "new aid"?
    3. Could this paperwork just be an automated requirement for future aid that I don’t actually need to complete?
    4. Has anyone had aid disbursed and then been asked for medical clearance afterward?

I’m planning to contact MOHELA for clarification, but I wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with something similar or knows how these systems interact. Right now it feels like overlapping processes that don’t quite line up.

Any insight would be appreciated ,thank you!

    1. What was the effective date of forgiveness. I may have been back dated to your disability determination date and then you took out a loan after that
