I got it my first car accident today and it wad a doozy. 2013 Ford Fusion. It was a pretty low speed accident with a telephone pole due to icy conditions. Hit it head on and damaged the engine so it was not able to be moved.

A cop responding to my call pulls up 20 minutes later, hits the same patch if ice that I did, and slams into me. Now I have 2 separate incidents to claim. I think the initial accident with the pole did substantially more damage, but I can't figure out how this may work out as far as insurance goes. Any thoughts on this situation?

The officer had his supervisor show up and document everything. He clarified it would be 2 separate incidents to report and he said I would receive the write ups soon via email. I have not received anything yet, but its only been like 5 hours.

    1. The insurance company will likely be able to tell which damages are from which thing, car damages and pole damages look pretty different.

Hopefully they decide to be nice and not charge you two deductibles, but there’s really now way for us to know.

You’ll be at fault for the first one and not at fault for the 2nd one. Probably easier just to go through your own carrier for both. Waiting on the city’s insurance may be a nightmare.
