Per their T&Cs the snapshot program monitors and uses the following metrics to determine additional rate discounts or increases at the end of a policy term:
1.Hard braking (decreases in speed of 7mph or greater per second).
2.Amount of time driven.
3.Time of day.
4.Fast Starts (increases in speed of 9mph or greater per second).
How in the world does Progressive distinguish between hard braking to avoid jackass drivers that are running stop signs, pulling out of driveways without looking, etc. from you tailgating?
Also with fast starts, how the fuck do they think we should merge into highways?
I’m so fed up with this plug-in device BS just so get some shit discount. It’s like they deliberately make 1 and 4 vague to count against you when you’re trying to avoid other asshole drivers.
We have never had any tickets or accidents or claims, but for the fact we now have a licensed teen our rates jumped 4k a year. We left Allstate because it was even higher.

1 and 4 are vague because they don’t have much impact, if any. They’re more or less just gamification of your driving habits.
2 and 3 are the factors that drive rate.
And if you’re constantly braking to avoid jackasses, you either routinely travel in high risk areas – or… like this saying goes, the probable may be in the mirror.
