So a little bit ago I was driving my friends car and crashed it into a parked car (it was a big car and I don’t realize how close I was) and their insurance paid for damages, obviously their insurance went up and I gave them money for that but I’m getting my own insurance since I just turned 18 and am completely independent so would that crash be on my record since I did get any tickets or anything and would I have to pay more for insurance since I crashed?

EDIT- I went on the Ks DMV website and paid the ridiculous fee and it shows my record was clear but i have been in several accidents but all under th age of 18 did it get cleared or what?

I crashed and I’m just now getting insurance

You will pay more for insurance just for being 18 alone but yes if they reported you as the driver then you are getting insurance as an 18 year who got caught driving with no insurance and has an accident then good luck but yes you are going to pay easily $500 a month.

    2. Yes the accident will still show on your record. When completing the original claim they would have asked for the drivers(you) details. When they collect that and input it, it shows on your record.

    3. Were you listed as the driver during the accident? That will be your answer

Same principle I tell my contractors that yes if your at the wheel in a commercial incident it can show up on your personal record even if everything was taken care of by the business

    4. Was there an accident report completed by the police? In my state if the damge is over 2K estimated, there must be a police report. Lets say you hit a friends vehicle and they didn’t need a police report. If you turned it into the insurance they could still require you to go back and get a police report. If there was one done, this will show up on your record. I can’t imagine the insurance would do a payout without documenting who the driver was.

Yes it’ll be on your record. Yes, you will pay more than you would had you not had the accident. But it won’t be forever. Shop around or get a broker to do the work for you.
