Hey everyone, thought I'd share my journey since I see a lot of questions about freelance rates and corporate clients.
I'm self-employed, no studio or team. I mostly work from home, I make one presentation per month for clients like Deloitte and they pay me $10,000 in good months.
My background includes 2 years of college in History major (not finished) and 2 failed attempts to make movies.
So, if such a slop like me manages to do that, I am sure you can do it too, if not better.
Last year I was playing with AI , mostly for fun and video generation. I bought a 20$ Pro subscription to Higgsfield for content generation.
Turns out, motion design is not as overlapped as video production.
I tried it expecting nothing, but realized I actually enjoy AI motion more than just generating videos (sorry, Higgsfield, it’s not you it’s my skills).
Suddenly my work looked professional even though my technical skills hadn't really improved. The AI was filling in all the gaps . Guess this happened because AI handled text and motion in my simple one-sentence prompts better than it handled text in videos.
So I started posting this new work on LinkedIn and Twitter. Just sharing examples of animated presentations and data visualizations I was making until someone from Deloitte saw one of my posts and reached out.
They needed monthly investor presentations turned into animated videos.
First project was $2k. They liked it. Asked if I could do it monthly. Started at $5k per month. Six months later negotiated to $10k when they expanded scope.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten that initial message with my old portfolio. The AI-assisted work was what caught their attention.
Now I have a few similar clients I connected with through social posts. Averaging around $20k monthly total.
    The breakdown:
Instead of manually keyframing everything in After Effects (which I'm honestly not great at), I chat with Vibe-Motion:
"Create title animation, corporate blue, fade in over 1 second"
"Animate this bar chart, bars grow from bottom, stagger by 0.3 seconds"
The AI generates the animation in real-time. I review it, make tweaks if needed, and move to the next slide.
It handles maybe 80% of the technical work that used to take me forever and honestly didn't look that good when I did it manually.
And it takes me a 15-20 minute animated video with polished motion graphics.
Be reliable and show up on time. Corporate clients value that over creativity.
If someone with a History degree and zero design background can do this, you definitely can.
Happy to answer questions about the workflow, my strategy, or landing corporate clients.
Anyone else using AI to punch above their weight skill-wise?

If a failed college student can make $10k per presentation, you can do it too..
