MA was the first state in the nation to offer state-subsidized heath insurance-MassHealth. Started in 1995 (the first waiver) fully implemented in 1997. It was a lifeline to me during a long period of under-employment because of health problems. Ps the governor at the time was Republican Mitt Romney. And guess what? The state didn’t go broke.
