I am insulating a wall against noise and wanted to use wood wool instead of rock wool, so that I do not need to worry aout breathing anything in. Is there a cheap insulation material like wood wool, that is als safe and used for accoustic dampening (inside two layers of drywall).
The wall is small, so I only nee roughly 12m² of insulation material. We live in northern europe, if that matters.
What is a cheap alternative to rockwool?

Shredded blue jean insulation
Excuse my ignorance, but are you thinking of mineral wool? I’ve seen the two mixed up before, conflating off-gassing, but I can’t seem to find information that rock wool off-gasses, as it’s literal spun rock.
We’ve mixed them up before, the first time we ran out of rock wool on a project mistaking them for the same thing (minerals = rock, right?). Never going near mineral wool again…
I have seen egg cartons used for noise dampening.
I mean they make wool wool insulation and I know it’s considered good value for its properties but that’s not quite the same as cheap. Havelock wool is the major manufacturer I’ve heard of in the US.
