I keep seeing these digital wall calendars marketed to families.

They look clean and organized, but most of them cost a few hundred dollars.

I can’t help wondering — isn’t this basically a mounted tablet running a shared Google Calendar?

For people who are pretty frugal-minded:

Did anyone buy one and feel it was actually worth it?

Or did you find a cheaper setup (tablet + app + wall mount) that works just as well?

Trying to decide if this is genuinely helpful or just a well-marketed convenience.

Are digital family calendars worth the money, or just an expensive tablet on the wall?

We have a Skylight from several years ago (it’s smaller than the giant wall mounted ones I see on IG today). We have sometimes found it helpful but I find that people easily become desensitized to it as another thing in the background and it stopped being useful at that point. We really just don’t use it like we thought we would. I think it’s been 3 years since we last plugged ours in 🤷🏼‍♀️

    2. Paper calendar – all adults should be able to use it… I’ve set notes on my phone to remind me to just write stuff onto the paper one before, but saves money, tech issues, subscription fees, damage, and shitty software.

I looked into these and. couldn’t justify the cost. A shared Google calendar on our phones does the same thing for fre

    4. The best is a Dry Eraser Calendar; you can get these at most office supply places. Anything regular you can use a Sharpie for, and other stuff that moves, a dry eraser pen. To remove the Sharpie, just go over it with the dry eraser pen, and it will wipe off. Some have a magnetic backing and will stick to a fridge.

    5. I have a Dakboard. It was very pricey, but we look at it everyday. We would lose our heads without it. I liked the Dakboard because you can still use two calendars and the photo slideshow without a subscription. The photo slideshows are fun, and a great family memory!
