Booked 4 nights in Seattle about a month before my trip. Total was $912. Refundable rate.
A couple weeks later I randomly checked the same hotel out of curiosity. Same room, same dates. It was $834.
    Canceled and rebooked.
Checked one more time a few days before the free cancellation deadline and it had dropped again to $671.
    Canceled and rebooked again.
Ended up saving $241 for maybe five minutes of effort.
What surprised me is that no one notifies you when this happens. If you do not check manually, you just overpay.
Now I only book refundable rates and I keep an eye on them until the cancellation window closes.
anyone else actually recheck their hotel prices after booking or am I the only one doing this?

Booked a hotel early, rechecked the price later and saved $241

Why does this surprise you? Hotels do not have any incentive to notify you. In fact, it’s in their best interest not to.
