Hello all, I recently moved out of a fully-furnished apartment and have been dragging my feet getting a new bed set up.
I got an IKEA mattress and (unshockingly) it's not nearly supportive enough. I have chronic muscular chest pain aggravated by tightness in my chest & back muscles, which happens on this mattress because it isn't supportive.
I make minimum wage and will not be making much more in the near future. I don't spend much on anything other than groceries, car payments, and the occasional coffee. I wish I had a thousand dollars to spend on a really nice mattress but I worry that if I have a car accident/other emergency I won't be able to keep myself afloat. No family who can help.
My question is: what is the minimum $$ I can spend on a full sized mattress and get something supportive? I would love any recommendations, especially for places that let me return at no charge if I need an exchange.
Thanks!!
Having mattress woes, looking for advice

Idk what your budget it but I’ve found zinus mattresses to be budget friendly but also comfy
If you don’t mind used, check with your local high end hotels to see when they are scheduled to update their mattresses.
They usually buy high quality mattresses and change them out every couple of years. Some have rarely been used.
Bedbugs shouldn’t be an issue since they cover them with zippered covers and are obsessed with preventing infestations.
Sometimes they will sell to individuals vs reselling to lower quality motels.
There are many people recommending a basic mattress but then get a mattress topper. It sounds like you need a firm one, if not a firm base to the bed itself. If your base sags, no mattress will save you.
You can also get very firm memory foam mattresses from various mail order or eBay sites that arrive rolled up and they fluff up after delivery/unpacking. I don’t know how trump’s tariffs have affected them, but I got one of the best mattresses of my life for $300 that way.
I LOVE my Purple mattress. I do t recall the price but would never go back to a regular mattress.
Tbh i went into debt for a great mattress ($1,000) and it was one of the best decisions i ever made
Still feels great 5 years later
Do your research and if there was ever a thing to spend money on, a mattress is pretty high on that list cause what is more important than sleep?
The answer is Costco. You probably know someone with a membership, but if not the cost of a membership + one of their mattresses will likely still be cheaper on than the mattress youll get from somewhere else. Plus you are famously able to return them if they dont work for you.
