I go clubbing/partying very frequently, sometimes on Friday and Saturday night in the same week. And it’s so cheap for how many hours you can spend doing it. All I spend is $5-10 for parking, $0-20 for a cover charge, and a bit of gas money. And it’s also such a good form of exercise, as dancing burns a lot of calories, and a great way to socialize. You might argue that drinking is very expensive and bad for your health, but you can easily go clubbing without drinking a drop of alcohol, like I do.
Clubbing/partying is actually such a cheap hobby/activity and form of exercise and socializing

I save food scraps for inexpensive broth.
I put on my 19.00 tjmaxx headphones and dance in my backyard
Yeah…. Most people end up buying expensive drinks. You are by far the outlier here.
$30 for one night of entertainment sounds expensive to me. Why not hang at a buddy’s house for free?
I save envelopes out of junk mail.
This is more of a “I don’t have gas money to get to work” kind of sub. Not a “it’s a pretty small amount of gas for entertainment” kind of sub.
Nope.
I go to the local casino for free as its the only club in town and do this. I see all the local bands for free. I don’t gamble so that’s not an issue and they have a decent dance floor. I never buy a drink and no one noticed, I don’t drink anyways so I wouldn’t be buying them anyways. They give out free bottles of water for people who don’t drink so I have that. They have free parking and a chill crowd so you can come as you are and you don’t have to dress fancy or anything like that.
No it’s not. Not even close. How did you find your way into this sub?
Socialize and exercise: go for a walk/job/run with a neighbor or a friend. Join the Meetup app and find free social and exercise activities all over your city. Or use a dating app (or your local reddit sub) on friend mode. Go volunteer. All of these are much lower cost to free and don’t expose you to an environment where you’re around drunk people and at higher risk of all sorts of harm (from illness to assault).
Or get a part time job that involves exercise and has a social/coworker environment. Make a little extra cash.
Sure it is inexpensive once in a while. But 4-8 nights a month, that is not inexpensive. That is 40-240 dollars a month just on parking and covers doesn’t count gas.
It’s not bad in terms of $/hr of entertainment on a night out, but count me out boss. You need to be in a very specific demographic to go clubbing (particularly age-wise). But even when I was in prime club age demo I just really didn’t like the vibes, so never got into it.
In this economy, $30 for a fun night out sounds OK to me, OP. Frugal can mean different things to different people. Sorry the responses haven’t been more supportive. Glad you’re enjoying it!
Exercise and positive social interactions are up there with some of the more important activities for our well being.
I’ve never been a big fan of the club environment, but in glad you’ve found what’s working for you!
I spend my discretionary budget on a gym with a lot of classes, and very comfortable locker room facilities (hot tub, sauna, steam room) and floors of equipment. Compared to a budget gym, it feels like a luxury. The more I go, the more I get for my money’s worth, and if it was a lower cost, if I’m being honest, I might feel less impulse to go, because my investment is less.
$30-$50 is a pretty normal cost for an exercise class in a lot of places, so I really feel like I get my money’s worth with the classes included with my gym membership. Seems like a reasonable cost to enjoy a night getting your physical and emotional outlet on.
Frugality isn’t about living as paupers, or behaviors which only exist out of the necessity of poverty, but active choices to fund what’s important to you, by making sacrifices and putting in the extra work, where you’re able.
a gym is probably a more economical way to do this
Pay a monthly fee and go as many times as you want, sign up for classes if you want the social aspect.
If you’re going out 4-6x a month and spending $30 each time, you can get a membership at a pretty nice gym.
That’s what I did in college 20 yrs ago, I also went to the gym earlier that evening. But yeah, I could walk to the bars, often it was free to get in and i’d just drink water and dance for hours. Gen z doesn’t seem to dance anymore, seems like clubs like that are from days past.
