A few years ago I bought myself a gel nail kit off amazon… now I have fun manicured nails every few weeks! I would've never been able to afford $120 bi-weekly to get my nails done. This small $60 investment has amounted over $2000 'savings' and so many compliments over the years.

I also work/volunteer at a local fitness studio to earn an unlimited membership. $300/month worth of classes I couldn't afford otherwise.

I would say both of these lifestyle additions have contributed greatly to living a rich life. It got me thinking… what are some unconventional ways/things other people do in order to enjoy a more luxurious life without the means to spend frivolously?

I can fix or install pretty much anything to do with a bicycle. So if I want nicer parts, I can rebuild broken or worn ones from eBay.

    2. I do most of my own car maintenance. Fluid changes, brake pads, air filters, lubricate suspension components, etc.

I view this investnment of time to pay off with obvious $ savings, but also mechanical skill building that translates to other things like lawn mowers, etc.

This one requires no investment: I can read dozens of books every year by borrowing them from my local library. If I end up borrowing a real clunker I haven’t lost anything. Many libraries lend other items too. And some also sell used books for $1 or less each.
