Living with parents while married, how do you save money if not?

Hi. I am 22(F) Married to 22(M). We got married a year ago and live in a very expensive city. My parents were able to buy when the rates weren’t so expensive so they pay about $2,000 a month for their home. I pay for groceries and anything my mom wants, her gas, and I have offered to pay for part of the mortgage and electric but my dad is egotistical and refuses help. But the secret is my dad misses payments, has nothing saved no health insurance no nothing no retirement for him and my mom. One time the lights went out and he pretended to my mother that he didn’t know why, then came into my room and asked to borrow $500. I got the cash gave it to him and told him to keep it and that I could pay for it regularly He refuses. He also is constantly involved in investment scams like Dinar. He’s basically just super irresponsible.

We live with my parents more for the reason of it being SO expensive for an apartment in my city (Studios starting at $2,200). And the second reason being that I can see how financially irresponsible my father is and my mother being 60 now I’m tired of it. I just want to take care of her and I want her to leave my father. We almost got evicted because my dad doesn’t “Believe” in taxes and didn’t want to pay the tax for his house. I can see from a mile away that this will never work, he will get an injury at work and miss another payment so I can’t bear for us to leave.

If you were in the same situation would you still go and rent an apartment for yourself? How the hell do I get people to stop being so damn judgmental? Do people really expect us to just live by ourself and have no money to our name? The other option I have is moving to a now second world country which we are deeply considering. It’s so tough to be a normal family now and I also can’t have children too because of the whole money thing. I am consumed by shame everyday. How are people surviving renting at these ridiculous prices?
