I currently have a truck that is registered in Florida that is owned by me and my mother.

My mom is an Illinois resident and I'm a Florida resident and primarily drive the truck.

Can I register my truck insurance in Illinois?

No, your insurance is based on the risk of where you drive. Rate evasion is illegal. You need to insure the vehicle in Florida.

No. Since the vehicle is in FL, it needs to be insured where it’s located. Florida also requires vehicles that have FL Registration to maintain continuous liability coverage on a FL auto policy.

Since it’s owned by you and your mother, you should be the primary insured, and your mother should be listed as an additional insured, not as another driver, since she lives in a completely different household.

You can register it wherever you want. If the vehicle is garaged on FL, it needs to be insured in FL.
