Hello all!

I am moving soon and saw moving box kits on Amazon but wondered if there is a cheaper solution? U-Haul boxes are expensive. I heard you can sell them back to U-Haul? Is it worth it? I have plenty of box tape and markers. I just need the boxes. I thought about asking places like Best Buy or other box stores like that. What do you all think? Thank you in advance.

Where can I find cheap moving boxes?

Any liquor store has boxes and will save them for you. Call or stop in, be nice and load up.
( I work at a liquor store. It’s this easy)

Your local print shops should have extra paper boxes: 11×17, 12×18 & 13×19. The later are shorter but very sturdy

    3. Go to dollar tree and stores like it. Ask them if you can have boxes or go through their dumpsters. Boxes for free!!

Hospitals have great boxes. And if U-Haul has used ones they’ll give them to you free

    5. Starbucks has mad boxes and they just chuck the out. If you have a friend who works there, or if you just stop in and ask the manager really nicely, they might set some aside for you

Join local facebook or nextdoor type groups, especially any “new to the area” type groups and post that you need moving boxes. I have seen people offer large sets of boxes and moving supplies for free after their move, and might help your luck if you ask.

Facebook marketplace. People post free (moving) boxes all the time because they don’t want the work of disposing them

    8. Costco call before they open asked them to save boxes for you from clothing they are free.

    9. Grocery stores. You can call and they may save for you. But you have to pick them up when you say you will. Make multi trips if you have to. They need the space.

    10. Starbucks can hold them for you if you ask! They get a big weekly order and there’s some big boxes in there. We used to hold then for customers when I worked there.

    11. Auto parts store. They tend to have a lot of heavy duty boxes. They will give you them for free if you get there before they break them down. Call ahead and see what day their truck comes in so you can be there when they’re available.
