This makes absolutely nonsense to me, but maybe it can help someone out.
I wanted to buy a couple whole chickens to smoke this weekend from Wal-Mart. I use the app, searched whole chickens, and holy shit. The search listed raw whole chicken, but also gave me results for rotisserie chicken.
GUYS. It was literally cheaper for me to buy 4 one-day-old rotisserie chickens (so refrigerated, not hot) than to buy a two pack of whole raw chickens.
Between the time saved on smoking, the cost of the propane, and the cost of the meat, that's kinda ridiculous.
Saved time and money on whole chickens

Also- some Mennonite and Amish colonies sell dressed uncooked chickens (you pre order a batch and then pick them up after a butcher preps and wraps. We joked they were mutant huge and heavy.)
Rotisserie chickens are a loss leader for stores, people are generally going to purchase additional items to make a complete meal.
I used to raise meat chickens. I paid 4 dollars per chick. One day, I went to Costco and paid 4.99 for a rotisserie chicken. After that, I stopped raising meat chickens. The only chickens I keep are for eggs now.
