Become homeless so you don’t have to pay rent
You thrive in these areas by having one of the high paying jobs in the city. If you don’t do that you thrive by moving. Any cost saving you can do with computers or whatever can be done in another place where the cost of living is lower. It’s simple math. You can compare the cost of living to what you will be earning as your job there. Only exception I could see is if you somehow have a place to live in that’s basically free in the high cost of living area.
Your power bill is $15?
Use mass transit. Do not rely upon stories of how it’s impossible or improbable.
The only solution is having roomates
What is lattitude, and why do you need it?
People from other states assume no one can make it in California. People here have various fruit and avocado trees in their yards that produce tons of fruit. They are happy to give it away. The climate is mild along the coast, so you don’t need to run the heater or AC all the time. You don’t need seasonal clothing, if it’s chilly, put on a sweater or jacket. Thanks to Prop 13, your property taxes stay low. You can drive on the freeway for FREE if you want or purchase a fast pass if you’re in a hurry. No tax on food or Social Security. Rent, gas, and some other things are higher but you are paid more. You can go to the beach, desert, or mountains all in the same day. Local parks have concerts in the park for free all summer. I feel like I have a good quality of life. My social security check is higher than relatives in Michigan because I earned more working part time than they did working full time. What I don’t like are crowds and traffic. I do my shopping during the week and try to avoid running errands on weekends. Since you can be outside thriving most of the time, you don’t need a huge house or it’s high utilities. A lot of people here have solar, we installed it when there were still subsidies. If you buy a home, there is a decent chance it may have solar. As soon as you cross the border into Arizona, gas prices fall drastically, but wages are much less there plus they have to run their A/C 24/7 several months out of the year.
California had several storms recently. Today was an absolutely gorgeous 70 degree day with clean air and awesome views of snow covered mountains. There is nothing like standing on the beach and taking in that view. We rode our E-bikes to the beach and didn’t worry about gas or parking.
