Hello!
Partner and I are about to go into attorney review for a place on Long Island. Our real estate agent is telling us that getting chimney inspections is not common in Long Island.
Was hoping for some guidance or wisdom to know if that’s true or not.
Chimney Inspections in Long Island, NY

I assume you’re talking about the chimney for a fireplace. Do you want to know if the fireplace is safe to use (e.g., that you can use it without setting the house on fire, or getting carbon monoxide poisoning?) Then get it inspected. Don’t plan to ever use the fireplace? Then I guess you can skip it. Chimney inspection in my area costs $250 or so, if that.
Whether chimney inspections are “commonly done” in Long Island or not seems completely irrelevant.
Your real estate agent is not looking out for your best interest, and wants the deal to close as fast as possible.
Get the inspection.
Of course, it’s common; they’re just trying to fast-track the deal. Get the inspection.
