I was recently approved for home repairs through my insurance. They sent me $16K for repairs, my deductible is $5k and the recoverable depreciation is $4K.
They approved repairing roof, gutters/downspouts, garage door, front door, and patio cover.
My goal is to repair all of the above at difference times in the future as there is no real damage to those things but a few dings from hail, but I want to focus on the roof and siding/brick repair right now (insurance did not pay for this). Can I use the $16K to pay for the roof and brick/siding and wait on repairing everything else? I’ve already received cash quotes from 2 different contractors to fix roof + siding/brick for about $15K. I don’t care about recovering the depreciation, just want to make sure I’m not doing anything illegal. I’ll still show proof of deductible being paid as part of the $16K and proof of repair for the roof. My mortgage was on the insurance check. TYIA

You won’t get your recoverable depreciation back if you don’t supply receipts for all those things and in the future you won’t get paid for those things on future claims.
