I’ve been trying to be more eco-conscious, and for a year I used the old trick of putting a weighted bottle in the tank to save water. All it did was make the flush weak and gross, requiring a second flush anyway.

I finally bit the bullet and replaced the whole unit with a modern low-flow one. It uses way less water but actually has enough pressure to get the job done on the first try. It’s way more effective than any DIY ""hack"" I’ve tried.

Are there any other ""old school"" water-saving tips that are actually just myths?

The "brick in the toilet tank" trick is a bad idea (and what I did instead)

    1. There are adjustable toilet flappers. Korky makes the one I have used before. It works well.

    2. Yes. Proper configuration once means savings in the long run. Set it and forget it. No hacking skills required.
