Someone drove a car into my house.

Located in Virginia, USA. A few days ago someone crashed a car into my house. No one in the house was hurt. The person also hit my truck but that seems like a pretty straightforward claim. The house was condemned. We had to pack some things and leave. We’re staying at a friend’s house. It’s two adults and a dog. I’m not the homeowner but I have renters insurance. The person hit a spare bedroom and the garage. And what I mean by hit is they completely went through half of the bedroom and most of the garage. The company that came out for the insurance company to board it up said that the repairs are at a minimum going to take 6 months. I’ve already started the claim process but it’s been the weekend so not much has been done. I’ve been going through my stuff and taking pictures of everything that was in those rooms. There was glass shards and debris on everything. The driver was uninsured and was arrested for a dui. My question is what are some things that helped you get the most out of a similar bad situation. Any advice for dealing with the insurance company would be appreciated. Thanks!
