As the title says can I get a car insured in florida with a NY license. I have a florida residence technically because I have bills under an address there.
Do I also have to drive the car there to get plates?

You would need to register the car there, but yes.
Are you going to keep the car in NY? If so, NY requires you to keep NY coverage. If they catch you, they could suspend your license if this is you plan. It’s called rate evasion, and NY is the most strict state about it.
