We had a tree fall on our detached garage back in October. We initiated the claim later that month and per the insurance's request, paid out of pocket to have the tree removed and so an inspector could be sent out. After the site visit, we received our Payment Letter and estimate, and then our ACV payment of $1032. The payment breakdown is below.

    Your Payment:

    Other Structures $5,383.95

    Deductible ( $2,000.00)

    Recoverable Depreciation ( $1,960.75)

    Paid When Incurred ( $390.36)

    Payment to you $1,032.84

We then used our ACV payment to start work with an insurance-provided roof contractor. They took the payment as a "deductible" per the contract we signed and the garage roof was replaced in January. We (and our insurance adjustor) thought everything was squared away. A few weeks ago, the contractor reached out to us stating there is still a 1000 gap (cost was 4800, insurance only paid 2800). I asked for an invoice and forwarded it to our insurance adjustor. Adjustor calls me the week after and says it was his mistake, we actually should have paid the contractor 2000. Our deductible is 2000 per the policy, but our claim and our signed contract with the roof contractor say only 1000. The adjustor missed this in multiple places.

We are not getting clear answers from the adjustor on the following items:

    1) Was the 2000 deducted from our ACV payment not our deductible being met? It feels like we are being asked to pay our deductible twice (2k taken from ACV, 2k paid to contractor)

    2) How do we go after recoverable depreciation? Our adjustor won't give us any info

    3) Is it worth pushing back on the insurance to make up the gap since our contract and the claim both have the wrong amount and this was signed off on by the adjustor.

Friends we have talked to who have also initiated claims with this provider have said the process was much simpler, they just received their check and went on their way and there was no back and forth regarding the deductible. Our adjustor is being extremely opaque and not answering our questions.
