Posting here because i'm not about to search for a toilet paper subreddit and you are my people.

So we use charmin blue per my wife's preference and me avoiding asking any questions. We grab a big batch at costco maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and the price has been relatively consistent through all this shrinkflation, but I've noticed, personally that it rips way way more than it uses to. Like, just ripping off a sheet it will tear.

I didn't know if anyone else is experiencing anything similar or if I'm just getting old and noticing this more. I've heard charmin red is solid too, but I'll have to whip up a sales pitch to the family for that.

Is TP quality getting worse? Or maybe I'm just noticing more. No potty humor please.

We don’t use that expensive stuff that you have going on there that’s like paper towels, we use Scott here. And Scott hasn’t really changed at all through all of the shrinkflation. But I have noticed that it’s not tearing on the perforation cleanly anymore. So maybe something is going on

    2. Yes. The target toilet paper I’ve been using for years has started pilling and creating little disgusting balls of bits of toilet paper left on your body when wiping. I HATE it. I’m using up what I have, and trying other brands until I find one that doesn’t that is still a reasonable price. It is absolutely absurd.

    3. I’ve been buying Sam’s Club brand toilet paper years and the quality has not changed at all.

I tend to get single ply store brand because it simply doesn’t leave TP crumbs in the netherregions like many of the name brand types do.

Store brands or name brands I’m generally a cheapskate though.

I avoid Angelsoft like the plague though because it’s always had a smell to it that reminds me of mold. It’s clearly NOT since it’s had that smell for the last two decades, and there hasn’t been a recall, but there’s a definite “ick” in my mind when using it, just because of its distinct smell.

    5. I buy 1000 sheet rolls maybe a dozen every year. SIx single ply squares folded twice is still cheaper than three two ply folded once. Retired soldier, I am used to the military grade. Military grade means the cheapest possible that can minimally do the job. The squares are shorter and narrower. As I am only using the center of the TP, that doesn’t matter so much. That these smaller squares also went up in price 25% in a year does matter.

    6. We used to always buy the Charmin blue at Costco, but we recently tried the new purple Kirkland brand TP and it’s honestly not bad. Not quite as cushy as Charmin, but it really isn’t bad. OTOH, I’ve heard the blue Kirkland is terrible.
