Obviously the most frugal move is not drinking alcohol. But if you do occasionally, cheap sake is an underrated budget option.
It’s usually 14–16% ABV, stronger than most wine, and often the same price or cheaper than bottom-shelf bottles. Can be enjoyed warm, cold, or room temp.
Also keeps better after opening and I personally don’t feel as bad the next day after a couple glasses.

Good tip. Ignore the downvotes, usually from the “alcohol is bad m’kay” crowd.
Cheap sake also tastes like cheap sake.
You can use sake to make lemon sour cocktails. Refreshing and mild (or as strong as you like).
What’s really cheap is kirkland spirits
1.75L Vodka for $20… Mix with ice water and add a lime
I agree that wine is too much
You should check out unflavored soju. Cheaper, more alcohol, and milder flavor than sake.
