I recently got accepted into a private art university in Brooklyn, New York. The school is Pratt Institute, and I’ve dreamed of going since I was in middle school.
I was recently accepted for a BFA for art and design education with a 100K scholarship, as well as a 6K grant. I would graduate with a teaching certification.
the overall tuition per year for me would be 90k, totaling (roughly) 255K per all 4 years with grants and scholarships considered. It’s a very prestigious school with a lot of credit to its name in the art world, but is it worth that much? I have been considering the TEACH grants, but the stipulations seem pretty all over the place.
this school has been my dream for a very long time, and i was very fortunate to get the scholarship that i did. i feel like it would be such a waste to give up on a dream as big as this one but i don’t believe neither me or my family will be able to manage the amount of loans that will be on my name. i plan on reaching out to the admissions department tomorrow asking for them to reconsider my scholarship in a plea for more money.
what can i do to make this easier? I’ve never wanted to be anywhere more.
is the amount of debt worth it?

$90K/year is batshit crazy for anything other than MD or dentistry. Real talk: you would be financially crippling yourself for life by pursuing this.
