Happy Friday (and happy payday to some!)

I'd like to start by saying that I'm sure there's a million posts with similar questions, but I've just been digging around and getting a general sense of the CLIMATE of student loans. Can't find my exact situation, but also doing this while on the clock, so forgive me! I'll keep it short and sweet:

Graduated from college in 2010, still paying. Switched to SAVE a couple years ago. Sitting on $14,000ish consolidated Principal Balance in Nelnet, but the Unpaid Accrued Interest is currently sitting at $565 and keeps rising. I keep throwing $200 at these a month the chip away at that principal, but hate seeing that interest rise.

My understanding is that this is caused by all of the garbage going on "above us" in the courts, hence the SAVE PLAN PAUSE FORBEARANCE status, correct? This interest only started adding up when things got funky with SAVE. And now the big debate on Reddit is to either just ride this out with SAVE payments and see what happens, or take a gamble and switch repayment plans now, correct? Bought a house last year at 37 years old and at this point, student loan stuff all seems so pedantic in the grand scheme of monthly bills.

Thanks so much, this community is great and really helps put my mind at ease.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

EDIT – I should also specify that my loans accrued interest the entire time that the pause was going on, so I never really had a no-interest-at-all period of time. Forgot about that!

Unpaid Interest Rising with Limbo-SAVE – help me grasp this concept, please!

    1. Interest resumed 8/1/2025. The interest is accruing because you are paying principal not interest.

    2. are you trying to pay your loans off? you need to pay more each month than the simple interest that would make them grow.
